Korean congregations: ‘a healthy branch of Christ’

June 3, 2016

As a commissioner of San Francisco Presbytery to the Synod of the Pacific and to the Korean churches in the synod, I am honored to serve/organize the Korean American congregations as a task force team leader.

For the past four years, the leaders of the Korean churches in the synod have gathered as a unified body of Christ to pray and live by Scripture (Heb. 10:24–25). With funding from the synod, a prayer retreat was called, and the teaching elders and ruling elders of the Korean churches were assembled in September to support and preserve our denomination, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  Our fourth annual Praise Chorus was held to lift up our melodic prayer to the Lord in our native tongue, for by grace we have been granted God’s gifts of our language and culture to expand God’s kingdom by serving the Korean American churches. From this event we gathered a mission offering to the synod for fire relief efforts in California.

We are grateful to the synod for supporting the unity of the Korean churches. Regardless of our differences, our desire is to become Christ’s body as a whole nation. By overcoming our cultural barriers, we—all the churches of the PC(USA)—will pave the way for Jesus’ second coming.

Let us pray

Loving God, thank you for allowing our Korean churches to become a unified voice in the Synod of the Pacific of the PC(USA). In the late 19th century, the PC(USA) planted the first seeds of the gospel in the land of Korea, and since then we have lived out our blessed lives spiritually in debt. We ask that both the Korean and American congregations will continue to grow together spiritually as a healthy branch of Christ. In Jesus’ name, we pray.  Amen.
