Spotlight on leaders: Betty Tom

Becoming a Presbyterian pastor was nowhere on the Rev. Dr. Betty Tom’s radar. She had attended Baptist and Pentecostal churches most of her life and was serving in a nondenominational church, and she was content. However, Tom’s life took an unexpected turn when she enrolled in seminary. As she worked her way through the courses of Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) in Indianapolis, the time came for her to do her supervised field experience, when seminarians go to work in their field of study in a church.

Miranda to join PC(USA) as associate for Hispanic/Latino-a Intercultural Congregational Support

The Rev. Rosa Blanca Miranda will join Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency on May 17 as the associate for Hispanic/Latino-a Intercultural Congregational Support. For the past several years she has served as pastor of El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church, a 1001 New Worshiping Community, in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

The Presbyterian Church in Tripoli and the National Evangelical (Presbyterian) Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL) ordained the Rev. Rola Sleiman as the first Arab woman to serve as a Minister of Word and Sacrament.

Min-Hee Kim was one of 12 young women sponsored by the Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries Young Women’s Leadership program who participated in the United Nations’ 61st CSW. Each year the ministry provides scholarships to young Presbyterian women from around the world to attend the event.

Presbyterian Ministry at the UN prepares for Commission on the Status of Women

The 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women will soon begin at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Commission will meet from March 13 – 24 and the Presbyterian Ministry to the United Nations will once again host a group of Presbyterians interested in following the work.
