Praying Around the Clock
When I teach about liturgical time, I sometimes use the image of an old-fashioned clock—the kind with an hour hand, minute hand, and second hand. Like an analog timepiece, liturgical time circles around at three speeds: the rhythms of the year, the week, and the day. [...] Although they move at different speeds, each hand of the clock travels the same circle. Similarly, the rhythms of the Christian year, week, and day are meant to draw us into a singular event: the dying and rising of Christ.
Ellijah’s cry and God’s compassion
Hello Everyday God-Talk Community, I hope your summer has been refreshing and filled with hope! As we ease back into updating our blog under the new webpage system, we appreciate your patience during this transition. [...] As we welcome the beginning of fall, I invite you to start with an 8-minute sermon focused on the story of Elijah, one of the "complimentary" biblical passages in this Sunday's lectionary. [...]I hope it provides some inspiration for your sermon this week or anytime in the future. ~ Blessings,
Have a great summer!
We wanted to let you know that our blog updates will be a bit slower and on pause during June and July. Once we have more information about the General Assembly’s decisions and direction regarding certain overtures and business items, we’ll be back with fresh new posts. We also aim to align our updates with the newly revamped PC(USA) webpage. Thank you so much for your understanding. Have a wonderful summer!
Everyday, Everybody Moves!
We're thrilled to launch the inaugural post in our new ministry initiative, "Everyday Move." This section is all about sharing short video clips that capture moments inspired by the Holy Spirit—think YouTube shorts or Instagram Reels. Let's dive straight into the experience without too much preamble. Check out our first feature—a dynamic video clip from Megan Gordon, a leader among our New Worshipping Communities and the Director of Haven School of Dance.
Winged Relations
Here’s the prayer for the "winged relations" and those who migrate like birds to root and fly, free and unfettered, again in spring as we slowly progress toward Holy Week and Easter. Birds are our neighbors. Those who migrate are our neighbors (echoing Mr. Rogers' Day spirit, too).
A story about praying
Instead of a prayer, here is a story from five years ago about praying – may it speak to you [...] After a fruitful conversation, and when we finished our meal, Charles stood to leave for his son’s basketball game. That’s when the woman stood, took the half step needed to cross the aisle in the restaurant and spoke. [...] We are made from dust. And to the dust we will all return. But until we do, moments of grace will find us. Thanks be to God.
A Tribute to Mrs. Lee
As the sun set on the eve of Ash Wednesday, a somber call reached me from my family in South Korea, delivering the news of my grandmother, Mrs. Lee's passing. Though anticipated, the weight of her absence was profound. [...] As I bid farewell to Mrs. Lee, in this season of Lent, I cherish the lessons she imparted and the legacy of strength, love, and wisdom she leaves behind. In her absence, I find comfort in memories of her indomitable spirit, a guiding light through life's highs and lows.

Thinking, Praying, and Living Our Faith in God
In November 2023, during the Moderator’s Conference of PC(USA), the Office of Theology and Worship embarked on a significant endeavor tied to our everyday responsibilities, as previously mentioned in one of our blog posts in November. At the conference, we delved into the themes of Thinking, Praying, and Living, emphasizing their profound importance in our mission and ministry. [...] I am delighted to share this reflection on our work three months after the Moderator's Conference, underscoring the interconnectedness of thinking Soul, praying Heart, and living within the Body of Christ. This frame is reflected well in our current Everyday God-talk blog “categories.” It is through this holistic approach that we…
Prayers for the Unfathomable Humanity
I’d never say that we must understand and forgive those who harm us physically, emotionally, and mentally, whether with or without harmful intent. I always ache and empathize with victims and survivors first, and that’s my usual tendency. However, this week, I found myself thinking about those who were forced and driven to choose to harm and end the lives of others. How can they do that? Are they human?
Seeing God in Sarang’s company to Pinto and Toby
Hey there, wonderful Everyday God-talk community! 🌟 This week, let's take a moment to reflect on how we connect with the divine through our relationships with other living beings. And guess what? These beings don't have to fit into the traditional categories of "spouses," "partners," or "children." They can be our beloved furry friends - our cats and dogs. 🐱🐶 But today, I want to introduce you to a companion animal that's still somewhat unusual but gaining popularity - the charming hedgehog! 🦔
