The Rev. Paul G. Moon, the first Korean American to stand for GA moderator, dies at age 87

The Rev. Paul G. Moon of Forest Hills, New York, the first Korean American to stand for moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died Feb. 20 in hospital hospice due in part to dementia. He was 87.

Many questioned whether it could be done. As the Church was weighing in on issues of racism, immigration, fossil fuels and the stormy political climate in Washington, two women took a step in faith and made history in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston decided two were better than one and became the first co-moderators for the General Assembly at the 222nd General Assembly (2016).

National Black Presbyterian Caucus gathers in Detroit for 43rd biennial convention

Members of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus (NBPC) gathered in Detroit on July 13–15 for the 43rd biennial convention. The event offered something for everyone but made sure to offer topics of interest to youth and young adults. The convention provided an opportunity for NBPC members to meet with the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson II, Stated Clerk for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and Co-Moderator T. Denise Anderson.

Ted Hickman, Commissioned Ruling Elder and Moderator of New York City Presbytery, dies unexpectedly at age 51

Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE) Theodore “Ted” Hickman, moderator of the Presbytery of New York City, died unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of 51 at his home in Brooklyn, New York, overnight on September 9.

Waldensian and Methodist Churches in Italy gather for Synod

The Synod gathering of Waldensian and Methodist Churches met in Turin, Italy, August 21-26, 2016. The meeting included ministers and member commissioners from congregations and 32 ecumenical guests from Europe and from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Leaders and ecumenical representatives spoke Italian, English, French, German and Spanish.

Former General Assembly Moderator and renowned scholar, Jack Rogers, dies at age 82

The Rev. Dr. Jack Bartlett Rogers (1934-2016), Moderator of the 213th General Assembly (2001) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and author of nearly 50 published works, died at his home in Pasadena, California, on Wednesday, July 13.
