Young Adult Volunteers forge ahead for equity and inclusion

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s ecumenical, faith-based Young Adult Volunteers (YAV) program is taking steps to embrace equity and inclusion in its recruitment and programming. As part of this endeavor, YAV teamed up with World Mission from April 30-May 3 to hold a consultation with people of color at the Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center in New Mexico.

Making food and farming more accessible to people of color

As a college student, Lytisha Wyatt became greatly concerned when she learned about health inequalities in the United States. She was especially troubled by data that showed that people of color die from illnesses linked to poor nutrition at a much higher rate than white people. Yet she was not at all surprised. People of color and people in lower-income communities are disproportionately impacted by a lack of access to healthier foods. “Nutritious food sources were not present in the community where I grew up, but they were in more affluent communities,” Wyatt said.

ACREC에게 “인종 공평성 옹호위원회”(REAC)로 명칭을 변경한다. 장로교 선교국 이사회와 총회 사무국 위원회에 지시하여 ACREC을 모든 문서, 용어 및 프로그램에서 REAC으로 변경한다.

Offices propose name change from ‘racial-ethnic’ to ‘people of color’

In response to a referral from the 222nd General Assembly (2016) directing the Advocacy Committee for Racial Ethnic Concerns (ACREC) to work with the Office of Racial Ethnic & Women’s Ministries (RE&WM) of the Presbyterian Mission Agency to determine more appropriate terminology than “racial-ethnic,” ACREC has recommended that the 223rd General Assembly (2018): Direct all six agencies to the PC(USA) to move forward changing the “racial-ethnic people” to “people of color” in all documents, parlance and programs from this point forward; Direct ACREC to change its name to change its name to Racial Equity Advocacy Committee (REAC); and Direct the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board and the Committee on the Office of General Assembly (COGA) to change ACREC to REAC in all documents, parlance and programs.
