PC(USA) co-moderators reflect on their tenure

Many questioned whether it could be done. As the Church was weighing in on issues of racism, immigration, fossil fuels and the stormy political climate in Washington, two women took a step in faith and made history in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston decided two were better than one and became the first co-moderators for the General Assembly at the 222nd General Assembly (2016).

In January 2017, remembering his legacy and recalling the “Dr. King’s Unfinished Agenda” conference (PNS stories #1, #2 and #3) at the Montreat Conference Center, Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston, Co-Moderators of the 222nd General Assembly (2016) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), urged the church to work to stand against “racism, poverty, war, and materialism” by issuing the “MLK Weekend: A Call to Action” letter.

It’s been called “one of the most important books on race in recent memory.” And now the Reverends Denise Anderson and Jan Edmiston, co-moderators of the 222nd General Assembly (2016), are urging Presbyterians via their “One Church, One Book” project to read and discuss “Waking up White”, by Debby Irving.
