The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed by the United Nations on or around 29 November each year, in accordance with mandates given by the UN General Assembly in its resolutions 32/40 B of 2 December 1977, 34/65 D of 12 December 1979, and subsequent resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on the question of Palestine.

A prayer

God, we recognize our limited ability to identify with other people half a world away, people we often see only on our TV screens. We confess that we are often prone to leap to conclusions, to lump millions of people together into a single character, and commit the subtle prejudice of assuming and generalizing. We pray that you would clear our eyes, to let us see a brother, a sister in the face of every Christian, and to see a neighbor, a unique, beloved person in the face of every individual. On this international day solidarity with the Palestinian people, we stand in hope, in hope for a just peace for Palestinians and Israelis and in hope in you. God, we may not understand the struggles faced by Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza, Israel, and elsewhere, but you do. We pray that you would be with Palestinians, individuals and communities, as they seek the simple necessities of money, employment, and identity. We pray for stability, for economic growth, and security in the West Bank and Gaza. And we pray for Palestinian and Israeli leaders and their mediators, that an equitable and just agreement can be reached soon. We pray this, knowing that nothing is impossible for you. In the name of the Prince of Peace, our Lord Jesus. Amen.

Thanks to Alexander Haines for work on this post and for writing the prayer.
