Pray for the people of Pibor and Akobo counties in southern Sudan. Violence has been reported between the Nuer and Murle peoples. An atmosphere of fear and deep uncertainty pervades the people.
Pray for peace to prevail, for a turn from violence, and for the people to live together. Pray that the government and international authorities intervene.
Gracious God, we pray for the people of Sudan in this time of transition and trial. We pray that you will guide them in these days. Particularly we pray for the Murle and Nuer peoples of Pibor and Akobo counties. We grieve for those who have been killed, injured, and violated in attacks by neighbor upon neighbor. Loosen the grip of anger and fear, greed and hatred on human hearts. Grant courage to the people that they might break the cycle of violence. Grant wisdom and grace that they might come to live with one another as brothers and sisters. Guide the leaders of Sudan, of Southern Sudan, and of the United Nations and the international community that they might take appropriate steps to end the violence. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
