A prayer for Haiti

Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. Open our eyes that we may see you in the people that we meet and in the creation that you have made. Open our ears that we may hear you in the laughter of children and in the cries of the hurt. Open our hands that we may do the work that you have called us to do. Merciful God, we remember that six months ago a terrifying earthquake came upon your people in Haiti. We remember the devastation that earthquake caused, the lives lost, the children orphaned, and the families displaced. Gracious God, you have called us to be a faithful people through our love and service to you and your people. We pray for continued help and protection for the people of Haiti and all people who are displaced. Strengthen the people of Haiti as they rebuild their nation and their homes. Strengthen the workers and labors who provide medical, security, architectural, and infrastructure aid to the nation. Unclog the pipes of bureaucracy so that resources may go to those in need. Clean hearts and renew spirits so that corruption and greed do not hinder the work of aid and sustainability. Loving God, soften hearts so that we may give and receive compassion. Embolden hearts so that we may put our faith and words into action. Steady hearts so that we may speak for justice and peace. Encourage hearts so that we may know you are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble.  Amen.
