New resource for Torture Awareness Month

June 26 is United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. A few years ago, religious and human rights organizations in the United States declared June to be Torture Awareness Month as a way to provide both a greater visibility to issues related to torture and an opportunity for coordinated actions across the country.

The Church Responds to Torture (PDF) is a new Web-based resource that includes a summary of statements by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on torture, prayers, a letter from the Stated Clerk to President Obama, ideas for action and more.

The resource was created by the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy, the Presbyterian United Nations Office, the Presbyterian Washington Office, and the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program in cooperation with No2Torture.
