A Latin America/Caribbean partner consultation held in Cartagena, Colombia, late last month marked the end of a cycle of four international consultations with global partners that will provide input for mission strategy for the 21st century.

‘A big call to action’ on mental health

When Doug Beach’s son suffered a mental breakdown on an overseas trip, he didn’t know what to do.  “We could have used a lot more help,” Beach said, recalling the event. His church was supportive, but staff and clergy weren’t familiar with the resources available to help people with mental health issues and their loved ones. Last week, Beach was part of a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) initiative working to change that.

Meeting, greeting and learning from kith and kin

Saying he’s “been yearning to come” visit staff at the Presbyterian Center, the Rev. Dr. Alton B. Pollard III, president of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary since Sept. 1, did just that Thursday, quoting this Valentine’s Day scripture from 1 John: “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God …”

Looking out at the A Corporation’s board Thursday, the Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson, II told the 10 directors his prayer is they’re not seated behind an ordinary corporate table. Make it a praying table, a hoping, dreaming, risk-taking table, the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly urged.
