Including the blind in worship

Christians often sing “Amazing Grace” without understanding what it is like to actually be blind — either legally blind with diminished vision or completely blind. More importantly, what is it like for those who are blind when they come into a church? How are they treated? How are they incorporated into the worship service?

God’s kingdom: close, yet so far

Dr. Brian K. Blount’s book “Go Preach! Mark’s Kingdom Message and the Black Church Today” sits on my desk. It’s one of the books that survived the move from our rental in Maryland to our Vermont home. During packing, I promised my husband I would limit the books to three large boxes. What didn’t fit wouldn’t come. There just wasn’t room in our 1760-something home for my dog-eared friends. It was painful, but I was brutal in my decisions as to which ones to keep and which ones to give away. It says a lot that “Go Preach!” made the cut.

New book addresses gender theory and faithful responses to transgender inclusion

Westminster John Knox Press is pleased to announce the release of Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians. In this book, transgender advocate and Christian, Austen Hartke, guides readers through an introduction to gender theory and examines passages from Scripture to make the case for transgender inclusion in the church.

Esta comisión, formada por la 222a Asamblea General (2016) en Portland, se le encargo «estudiar e identificar una visión de la estructura y función de las agencias de la Asamblea General del IPC (EE.UU.)».

May 28 is designated Disability Inclusion Sunday by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), an opportunity for churches to help congregations understand what “disability inclusion” means and how they can help people with disabilities feel included in the life of the church.
