The Samuel Robinson Award seeks to stimulate interest in the Westminster Shorter Catechism by challenging Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) members who are juniors or seniors in college and attending a Presbyterian related college or university to memorize and recite the catechism from memory. To further demonstrate understanding of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, the applicant will write a 2,000-word essay on an assigned topic related to the catechism. The essay is read by a panel of chaplains.
Criteria
- Successfully recite the answers to the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

- Write a 2,000-word original essay on a related assigned topic.
- Be members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
- Be a junior or senior attending a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)-related college or university
Range of awards
The two students with the highest scores receive $7,500. The lowest award for an application with essay is $2,000. Applicants are provided with a study Bible from the Betty Chrisman Fund for students who are memorizing the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
