Lemuel Garcia-Arroyo joins MES team
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s Mission Engagement and Support announced today the addition of Lemuel Garcia-Arroyo to its team as a Mission Engagement Advisor (MEA). In his role as MEA, he will provide counsel and guidance to help presbyteries, mid councils and congregations deepen their engagement in mission, and collaborate with ministry partners to help determine areas of greatest impact. His region of responsibility includes Synods of the Sun, Southwest, and Boriquen (Puerto Rico).
Garcia-Arroyo has been working with the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s (PMA) Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries for nearly the past three years in his role as Associate Director of Racial Equity.
“It’s a great privilege to serve the PMA to help connect mid councils and congregations to the ministry work that we do,” Garcia-Arroyo said. “I’m eager to work with our partners in ministry to tell the story of what God is doing in our communities of faith, congregations and lives together throughout the Church. I’m grateful for this opportunity to serve the church that I love so much. This is truly a gift from God.”
Garcia-Arroyo will be sharing the church’s vision of Matthew 25 with his region which covers Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico. He will be moving back to Austin, Texas to join his wife and two children.

Mission Engagement Advisors can tell you about the various ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and guide you through ways to support them financially. They can also direct you to resources that will help you engage in other ways.
Lynne Foreman, Northeast region, Synods of the Northeast and Trinity
Lynne Foreman is the mission engagement advisor for the Northeast region, which includes the synods of the Northeast and Trinity.
“As a lifelong Presbyterian, I am humbled and grateful to serve, work, and give back to the church that has had a major impact on my life and in the lives of so many in my family,” Lynne says.
Sy Hughes, Southeast region, Synods of Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic
Sy Hughes is the mission engagement advisor for the Southeast region, which includes the synods of the Mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic.
“My goal is to connect the passion, leadership and excitement of congregations, individuals and presbyteries to the mission and ministries of the wider Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.),” Sy says.

Bill McConnell, Central region, Synods of Living Waters, Mid-America and Lakes & Prairies
Bill McConnell is the mission engagement advisor for the Central region, which includes the synods of Living Waters, Mid-America and Lakes & Prairies.
“The church is called to various ministries close to home and around the world,” Bill says. “I am excited to find connections that link individuals, congregations and mid councils with these ministries and that explore ways that we can more actively participate in God’s mission.”
René Myers, West region, Synods of the Rocky Mountains, Alaska-Northwest, Pacific, Southern California and Hawaii
René Myers is the mission engagement advisor for the West region, which includes the synods of the Rocky Mountains, Alaska-Northwest, Pacific, Southern California and Hawaii.
“It is a blessing to connect with people who feel called to make a difference for God’s people throughout the world and share stories of how the Presbyterian Mission Agency partners with our congregations and members to make that difference,” René says.
Chris Roseland, North region, Synods of the Covenant and Lincoln Trails (Lead Mission Engagement Advisor)
As the lead mission engagement advisor, Chris Roseland supports colleagues as they work with individuals, congregations and mid councils across the United States. In addition, Chris himself serves the North region, which includes the synods of Lincoln Trails and Covenant.
“I believe that mission is common ground for our diverse, divided denomination,” Chris says. “I feel called by God to serve the church in this vitally important ministry.”
Jon Moore, 1001 New Worshiping Communities
Jon Moore is a mission engagement advisor who focuses on the 1001 New Worshiping Communities movement. He works with individuals, congregations and mid councils across the United States.
“I’m called to invite people to become personally involved in God’s work to save and change lives,” Jon says.
Bryce Wiebe, director, Special Offerings
Bryce Wiebe is director of Special Offerings for the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA).
He and his staff promote the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s four Special Offerings and the causes they support. The four offerings are One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost, Peace and Global Witness, and Christmas Joy.
Relationship and Development Operations
Alex Spoelker, manager, Relationship and Development Operations
Alexandra “Alex” Spoelker is the manager of relationships and development operations for the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
In this role, Alex oversees the team that is responsible for gift processing, gift acknowledgement, prospect research, gift reporting and database functions. – In addition, she works on special projects that seek to maximize financial efficiencies and nurture donor relations.
Theresa Goodlin, Team Leader for Raiser’s Edge Gift and Data Entry
Theresa leads a team of gift/data entry professionals that processes and acknowledges gifts to the Presbyterian Mission Agency. She serves as the liaison to donors who have questions about their gifts or giving opportunities.
Mission Support Resources
Nicole Gerkins, Mission Engagement Associate
Nicole Gerkins assists congregations and individuals seeking to support Presbyterian World Mission.
Nicole assists congregations that want to establish relationships with mission co-workers, helps match the passions of individuals and congregations with giving opportunities and provides resources to aid them in their mission engagement. She is also Mission Engagement and Support’s liaison with mission networks.
Joan Gray, Mission Specialist
Joan Gray’s primary focus on two ministry areas, Compassion, Peace and Justice and Racial Ethnic and Women’s Ministries. She resources congregations seeking to engage in the work of these two ministry areas through financial giving and other types of involvement.
Joan also facilitates the Pillars of the Church initiative. Individuals become Pillars of the Church by making sustaining, monthly gifts to specific PMA ministries. Congregations become Pillars by committing to annual gifts in support of a PMA ministries.
Jon Reinink, Church Support Associate
Jon Reinink interprets the ministries supported by the four churchwide special offerings, provides resources to promote the offerings, and encourages congregational participation. His work includes a special focus on helping new pastors understand the impact congregations make by participating in Presbyterian Mission Agency ministries. He also facilitates congregational engagement in the work of the denomination.
