Update on Standing Rock

Yesterday the Presbyterian News Services released an article “Standing in solidarity with Standing Rock” that reminds us to be in prayer after last week’s clashes in North Dakota as Native American brothers and sisters and allies continue to witness against the current construction plans of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Originally planned to be built near Bismark and finally relocated with a mile of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation–and going underneath the Missouri River that provides water for the reservation–many questions continue to be raised about the process, permits, and plans of the pipeline.

Presbyterians religious leaders and clergy will gather in solidarity this week with the Standing Rock Sioux. I will post links and updates here, as reports and reflections are shared from this week’s experiences.

For those of us who are not traveling to ND this week, we are invited to be in prayer, to contact public officials with your comments, and to contribute if you feel so moved to the Synod’s fund that will go to support basic human needs at the camp as cold weather descends.
