Earth Care Congregations in 2022

Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations across the country are recognized annually as Earth Care Congregations by the Presbyterian Hunger Program. Each year since the pilot program in 2009, this program has embraced additional congregations.

In 2022, even with all the challenges of being two years into a global pandemic, there were 276 Earth Care Congregations certified. (You can see a list and/or a map of these congregations if you use either the horizontal green menu bar or the right-hand vertical menu bar at pcusa.org/earthcarecongregations.)

Read this wonderful article describing the work of an Earth Care Congregation in Lawrence, Kansas:

‘We’ve got to move Earth Day to 12 months a year’

The ECC certification recognizes in a tangible way the churches that make the commitment to take seriously God’s charge to “till and keep” the garden. To learn more about the Earth Care Congregation Program, to peruse a Greening Congregations guide, or to download a sample of the ECC audit in order to plan ahead for 2023 certification (available between January 1-Feburary 15, 2023), see  www.pcusa.org/earthcarecongregations.
