The PC(USA) has been involved in issues of Fair Trade since the Presbyterian Coffee Project began in 2001. Fair Trade is a “trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, disadvantaged producers and workers — especially in the [Global] South.”
World Fair Trade Day, started in 2001 by WFTO members, falls on the second Saturday of May of each year. It is an inclusive worldwide festival of events celebrating Fair Trade as a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty and exploitation, climate change and the economic crises that has the greatest impact on the world’s most vulnerable populations. And PHP hopes that you’ll consider supporting and celebrating Fair Trade this year as part of your Eco-Journey.
