Montevallo (AL) Presbyterian Church Saves Energy and is even an EPA Energy Star Congregation!

Montevallo Presbyterian Church in Alabama is a PCUSA Earth Care Congregation and an EPA Energy Star Congregation, and has accomplished many great things in caring for God’s creation.

 

Recent celebrations from this church, which uses EPA’s Portfolio Manager to manage their energy use:

– Saved $1,973 in 2011 and 2012

– 35% reduction in green house emissions since 2010

 

This church appreciates the EPA Portfolio Manager tool because it provides structure and discipline for monitoring, which results in better protection of the environment and revenue reallocated for use in ministries of church. Meanwhile Montevallo’s Green Team has grown from 7 to 15 members, with members’ ages ranging from 15 to 82 years. They have accomplished installing  programmable thermostats, energy efficient bulbs, double pane windows, and insulation. Also, the church’s water is heated only during hours church is open.
