Earth Care Congregation Spotlight: Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney, TX

Trinity Presbyterian Church celebrates being an Earth Care Congregation!

As an Earth Care Congregation, Trinity Presbyterian Church of McKinney, TX, proudly celebrates the many great facets of this ministry! Some unique ways Trinity honors God’s creation are: offering reusable shopping bags with Trinity Earth Care logos; selling Fair Trade chocolate; providing ceramic mugs and eco-friendly compostable, biodegradable cups for coffee; sending electronic newsletters; increasing paperless Sunday services; using fair trade Eco-Palms on Palm Sunday; taking field trips to places with earth-friendly practices; giving minutes for mission and bulletin inserts with a creation care focus; diverting approx. 7 cubic yards of waste from our local landfill monthly with church wide recycling; installing low flow toilets and high-efficiency air hand dryers; supporting MOPS and youth consignment sales; and so much more! We especially enjoy our Good Earth Garden and Arbor. Organic vegetables grown here are shared with Samaritan Inn, Collin County’s homeless shelter. Rain is harvested to water the gardens, church kitchen vegetable waste is added to the compost bin, and the nearby arbor is a beautiful outdoor gathering place.

My personal experience with our community garden has been truly amazing! The attached photo shows my son and his grandma picking organic carrots. What a joy to bring generations together, for my son to be a part of all aspects from filling plots with dirt to eating produce straight from the vine to sharing the harvest with others in need. Since these experiences, my son continually encourages our family to implement “green” practices, tries new vegetables, gets excited about nature, wants to give to others in need, and tells us, “I want to take care of God’s creation!”!
