Calling on Women to to Speak Out for Health

Join the Call for Safe Cosmetics

The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program sent the action alert below.  Learn more about environmental health.

As people of faith, we are called to care for our bodies and for vulnerable people. Women still often take on the roles of caregivers, especially in their families. While attending to her own personal care, the average woman uses 12 products a day on her body. Yet there are virtually no standards in place to ensure the personal care products we all use are safe. Some chemicals cause or are strongly linked to long-term effects such as cancer, asthma, birth defects, neurological damage, and reproductive harm. Women of child bearing age, children, and workers in the cosmetics industry are most vulnerable.

Women are pushing for safer chemicals in personal care products by lifting up their voices and calling for reform of our 70 year-old outdated cosmetics law. Invite the women in your life to join this faithful and just effort and sign this petition.

Seventy years of inadequate protection is long enough! Women of faith can and must be beacons of justice for their bodies, their families, and for vulnerable workers by ensuring that the products on our shelves and in our bathroom cabinets are safe.

Congress is now considering how to give the personal care industry a makeover and this is our moment to act. Ask the women in your life to add their names to this growing petition of women of faith across the country calling for cosmetics reform here.

Thank you for sharing your witness and protecting God’s most vulnerable,

Chloe
