Tell Your Senators: The Time is Now to Protect Health and God’s Creation

The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program sent the following action alert about the Toxic Substances Control Act.  Learn more about toxic chemicals and how you can take action.

On April 14, legislation was introduced to reform our broken 35-year-old national chemical policy: the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Click here to let your Senators know reform legislation has arrived, and ask them to make it a priority this year.

Our Christian faith calls us to treat our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), steward God's Creation, and give special protection to the "least of these" who are most vulnerable (Matthew 25).

Our current national policy TSCA has not sufficiently protected human bodies, God's Creation, or “the least of these.” In fact, only 200 of the 84,000 chemicals in commerce have been fully tested for safety. Chemicals known to be dangerous are used in everyday goods like cleaning products, furniture, and children's toys. Some common chemicals have been linked to cancer, diabetes, asthma, learning disabilities, and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. These chemicals are especially dangerous when they interfere with development in the womb, as well as with growing babies and children.

Please click here to email your Senator and ask them to make reforming our nation's chemical policy a priority this year.
