Swarthmore Presbyterian Church Earns Second Energy Star for Congregations Award

Swarthmore Presbyterian Church in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, recently received a 2010 Energy Star for Congregations Award.  This makes Swarthmore PC only the second congregation to earn an Energy Star for Congregations Award for two consecutive years.  Congratulations to Swarthmore PC for this honor!

In addition to saving $8,000 in energy costs per year, or the equivalent CO2 emissions of the annual electric usage of nearly three homes, Swarthmore PC has focused on raising environmental and energy awareness in their church and community.  The church held an Environmental Fair for Earth Day in 2010 that drew more than 300 guests and received local media coverage.  The church also incorporated theological foundations for earth care into adult education, and formed an Environmental Task Force to continue the commitment to earth care within the church.  Read more about the church's earth care programs and the responsibilities of the Task Force on the Energy Star for Congregations site.

Swarthmore PC was also recently certified as an Earth Care Congregation by PC(USA) Environmental Ministries.

Thank you to Swarthmore PC for its commitment to earth care!
