On October 3rd many Presbyterian Churches collect the Peacemaking Offering. Also on October 3, the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program is asking churches around the country to participate in a "Seeking God’s Grace for the Gulf: A Day of Worship, Reflection and Healing." These two events can go hand-in-hand. Your church can collect the Peacemaking Offering and reflect on making peace with God's earth by holding a vigil for the Gulf Coast or including a prayer for the Gulf Coast and its communities in your worship.
Download worship resources from the Peacemaking Program for October 3. Congregations are encouraged to retain 25 percent of the Peacemaking Offering to use in peacemaking activities within their communities or to support peace-related projects they are interested in. Consider using your congregation's 25 percent to help with restoration efforts in the wake of the oil spill.

The National Council of Churches and its 36 member communions believe that prayer, reflection and healing are part of the long-term recovery that is vital for the Gulf. To begin this process, the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program is hosting a national event “Seeking God’s Grace for the Gulf: A Day of Worship, Reflection and Healing” on Sunday, October 3 and invites you and your congregation to join them by hosting a worship service, candle light vigil or other event that lifts up the needs of those in the Gulf.
Find worship materials, a bulletin insert, educational resources and a step-by-step guide for planning and hosting a candle light vigil for you and your congregation to use on October 3 on the National Council of Churches Eco-Justice website.
