Environmental Health

We are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26) and and are urged to take care of the body as a temple to the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).  Yet, we may be using products that we don't realize are affecting our bodies negatively.

Did you know that items like soaps, deodorants, lotions, shampoos, and other toiletry products are not regulated for safety?  It is shocking to learn the potential effects of some of the ingredients in our personal care items.  The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Programs has produced a study guide and a healthy spa day guide for congregations that are interested in learning more about this environmental health issue.

Tell your congresspeople that our personal care items need to be regulated to keep lead out of lipstick and mercury out of mascara, and other toxics out of countless products by signing the petition at the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics website.

Learn what ingredients are in your personal care items through the Cosmetic Safety Database.
