Five communicators to share their thoughts from Columbia Theological Seminary

LOUISVILLE — Why is it important for church leaders to have a voice in public media? This is among the topics to be explored by seminary students, pastors, church communicators and others during a March 20 event jointly sponsored by the Presbyterian Writers Guild and Columbia Theological Seminary.
Five members of the Presbyterian Writers Guild board will participate in a panel discussion titled “The News & the Good News: The Impact of Ministry on Journalism.” The panel is being hosted on the Columbia Seminary campus in Decatur, Georgia, as part of a seminary-sponsored community forum from 11 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time and is open to the public.
The panelists are Emily Enders Odom, president of the guild and interim vice president for Development
and director of Alumni/ae Relations at Union Theological Seminary in New York; Jill Duffield, editor of the “Presbyterian Outlook”; Jerry Van Marter, former editor of Presbyterian News Service; Eva Stimson, former editor of “Presbyterians Today”; and Bill Lancaster, a retired pastor and former communicator for Foothills Presbytery.
The panel will explore such topics as why it is important for church leaders to be visible and have a voice in public media, first steps for getting plugged into local and regional public media, and how to construct a message that breaks through and connects in the information age.
