For the second year, Presbyterian youth groups from across the country are invited to submit original videos communicating the impact and importance of the Pentecost Offering.
The top three videos will be featured on the Special Offerings blog and social media sites. The winning youth groups will also receive up to three paid registrations to a future church-wide youth event such as Presbyterian Youth Triennium or Faith in 3D.
The 2013 contest winner, the youth group from Anchorage Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, KY., was able to send a few of its members who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to attend to last year’s Presbyterian Youth Triennium.
Because the Pentecost Offering is used to encourage and support young people and provide assistance to at-risk children, the Special Offerings office wanted to hear from youth themselves.
“We love the idea of youth promoting the Pentecost Offering,” said Sam Locke, director of PC(USA) Special Offerings. “Their energy and passion are inspiring, and we are thrilled to help them share their gifts with the greater church.”
Congregations keep 40 percent of gifts made to the Pentecost Offering and can use those funds for a wide variety of ministries, such as Vacation Bible School. Locke said the office hopes to see videos showing how the Pentecost Offering is used on both a national and local level.
The Pentecost Offering is the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)’s newest and smallest special offering, and Locke anticipates the video contest bringing more exposure to causes that Presbyterians of all backgrounds can support — youth programs and child advocacy.
