The Prophets and the Teachings of Jesus: No more woes

Habakkuk 2:6 • Shall not everyone taunt such people and, with mocking riddles, say about them, “Alas for you who heap up what is not your own!” How long will you load yourselves with goods taken in pledge?

Luke 6:24–26 • But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.

Jesus used the word “woe” more than any other in Scripture.

Woe is not a word we use much today. It is akin to regret, grief or indignation. Life is a series of blessings and woes. Sometimes things go spectacularly, then there are the days we wish we had stayed in bed. God wants each day to be spectacular. God’s desire is that we experience the blessed happiness of a relationship with the savior. We do that by focusing on living a life of faith that makes each day a good day.

Lord, may my woes be diminished and my blessings expanded through faith in you. Amen.
