The United Nations has designated November 25 as the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence campaign, lasts from November 25 to December 10, Human Rights Day, chosen to emphasize that violence against women is a violation of human rights. The theme for this year’s campaign set is “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Gender-Based Violence!” The UNiTE Campaign and UN Women offer suggestions to mark each day of the 16 Days of Activism.
Wednesday, December 3: Women in Power and Decision-Making
- Call on women leaders in your community to raise awareness of violence against women and girls and the need for immediate action.
- Invite women parliamentarians and community leaders to issue video messages wearing orange, stating their support for efforts to end violence against women and girls, or to write op-eds to reinforcing the need to prioritize the issue and sharing pledges of their own personal actions.
- Enlist women leaders to message about ending violence against women and girls via social media using the hashtags #orangeurhood and #16days.
Prayer for the day:
We pray for women who are in positions of power and decision throughout our world. We ask that they would seek to make decisions that would positively affect those around them; that they would serve in their positions with justice and love. We pray for their safety, and we pray for their families. We thank you for putting a great number of women in positions of power throughout the globe and ask that you would increase their number and their influence. Amen.
