Happy Birthday, United Nations

United Nations Day Poster

October 24th is United Nations Day.  This day marks the anniversary of the Charter of the UN that occurred in 1945.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has long supported the work of the United Nations. The 220th General Assembly (2012) voted to “Affirm the church’s historic support for the United Nations as an instrument of peacemaking and peace building and a guarantor of the human and legal rights of people and nations.”

Here are some ideas for how you can celebrate this day:

Pray for those who work in the United Nations system.

Pray for the United Nations.

Use a hymn written by the Rev. Carolyn Winfrey-Gillette. The hymn in bulletin format. The hymn with music. Check out a video of the hymn.

Participate in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF a program started by Presbyterians.

Learn more about the United Nations.

Organize a seminar through the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations.

Make a gift to the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations.
