My name is Gail Carol Nelson. Four years ago I retired from the field of education, teaching and learning with students of all ages. Last September, for the first time I began formal theological studies. The gift of my ecumenical placement as an intern at the Presbyterian Ministry to the United Nations is associated with this ongoing education. Beginning this summer, I hope to become more deeply aware of international efforts to bring reconciliation where there is presently conflict. I would like very much to become part of that effort and part of the international community gathered to help shepherd true peace. Standing beneath the deeply inscribed words of Isaiah 2:4 in Ralph Bunche Park, walking in the United Nations rose garden where thousands of roses are budding and in full bloom, listening for the sound of the Japanese Peace bell, I experienced deep appreciation of all the faithful ones from every place on earth who’ve gone before us, all those serving now and all those to come. To be here even a little while is a great blessing.
