Advent Devotion – Sunday, December 15

Reflection and Prayer by Julie Gvillo (adult leader)

Psalm 25

1. What promises of God does David proclaim?

2. Does God need this reminder?

Reflection: God promises that the path of God is steadfast and that God will instruct sinners (not embarrass them in front of their enemies) and lead the humble in God’s ways. I am thankful for that promise because I know my failures are numerous, and I am tired of being embarrassed by them. I long for the gentle instruction of a loving shepherd who will guide me forward without condemnation, facetiousness, and power plays.

Prayer: Merciful God, I have failed you. I continue to fail you regularly, and I know you are disappointed. Yet you never fail to love me and to encircle me with your protection, using me still to do your work in the kingdom. I praise you and give you thanks. Amen.

The 2013 Advent Devotions were written by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) youth and their leaders at the 2013 Youth Triennium. Each day provides a lectionary-based Scripture passage, questions for reflection, and the students’ responses.
