Advent Devotion – Friday, December 6

Reflection and Prayer by Allison Brockett (12th grade)

Amos 5:11-15

1. What about Israel’s behavior is most offensive to God?

2. Why is justice for the poor so important to God?

Reflection: In this passage, God is frustrated with Israel because they have ignored the poor. Justice for the poor is important to God because they are just people who have been dealt a hard hand. Those who have more than enough should help those who don’t have enough.

Prayer: Lord, please open our eyes so we can see those in need. Open our hearts so we can help them. Amen.

The 2013 Advent Devotions were written by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) youth and their leaders at the 2013 Youth Triennium. Each day provides a lectionary-based Scripture passage, questions for reflection, and the students’ responses.
