Advent Devotion – Tuesday, December 3

Reflection and Prayer by Giovanna Savastano (college freshman)

Psalm 33:13-22

1. What are some of the ways we often try to take care of ourselves instead of trusting in God’s steadfast love?

2. How can we learn to better trust God?

Reflection: We try to solve our own problems and fight our own battles, by ourselves. We often feel alone and try to push through whatever it is that is troubling us. We feel as if we are bothering God with our little problems when there are much bigger problems in the world, like war and violence. We need to read the Bible more. We need to “let go and let God.” God knows what is going on and how to handle it much better than we ever will. We need to learn to let God guide us.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to learn that you know more than we ever will. Help us trust you more and let you handle things when we cannot. Let us let go and let you do your job of caring and loving us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The 2013 Advent Devotions were written by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) youth and their leaders at the 2013 Youth Triennium. Each day provides a lectionary-based Scripture passage, questions for reflection, and the students’ responses.
