Peace Starts Here

UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, has launched Peace Starts Here, a Web site that will provide glimpses into the lives of Palestinian refugees.

Fifteen short video clips will look at 15 refugees from 15 camps (UNRWA works with 58 camps) and tell 15 stories. Note that not all of the clips are posted yet. The site is a work in progress. Links to additional information is provided for each of the video clips.

UNRWA, an agency of the United Nations, works with Palestine refugee communities in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territory to mitigate the marginalization and poverty that the Palestinians face.  Today, 4.7 Palestinian refugees are eligible for UNRWA services. Those services include education and health care, and a social safety-net. UNRWA provides loans to small business enterprise through loans and works to improve the infrastructure of the refugee camps. UNRWA also addresses protection needs, and provides emergency response, including in times of turmoil and conflict.

Peace starts, UNRWA says, by listening to people's stories. Peace Starts Here provides an opportunity to hear Palestinian stories.
