To inspect Russian sites, START is needed

Without START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty), the United States
cannot inspect Russian nuclear weapons sites. Encourage your Senators to

.

As well as allowing such inspections, the new START would reduce the number of U.S. and Russian deployed strategic nuclear warheads, from more than 2,000 today to 1,550 or less each on no more than 700 deployed delivery systems. Approval of New START would open the way to reductions in other types of nuclear weapons.

The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has called for the U.S. and Russia to reduce their arsenals to 1,000. The Assembly has also called for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction.

START is scheduled for a vote in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this week with a vote by the full Senate to follow.
