Truth Commission on Conscience and War

Today is the day for the public hearing of the Truth Commission on Conscience and War.

If you are in New York, you can attend the public hearing from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Riverside Church.

Reports are that the public hearing will be Webcast, but I have not seen an address yet. Try the Truth Commission and the Riverside Church pages.

The mission of the Truth Commission on Conscience in War is to "honor and protect freedom of conscience for our nation's service members."

The Public Hearing on Sunday, March 21st will bring together leaders from academic, faith, veterans, and advocacy communities – along with the general public – to receive testimony from those affected by the moral dilemmas of war.

Together, we will hear from recent veterans, military chaplains, religious leaders, and legal experts about issues of conscience, just war, military service, and the rights and regulations governing Conscientious Objection.

On this day and every day, I hold in prayer:

Those who serve in the military because of conscience; their families and friends.

Those who choose not to serve because of conscience; their families and friends.

Those who struggle with conscience as to whether to serve or not; their families and friends.
