Our friends in the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum pass on concerns from our sisters and brothers in Sudan encourage us to pray for a just and lasting peace for all the people of Sudan.
Refugees International provide a brief video on the situation in South Sudan.
Among those calling for prayer are the Catholic Bishops of Sudan whose statement includes the words:
"In this holy season of Advent, we exhort you to pray for a just and lasting peace in our Country. This moment of expectation of Christ, the Prince of Peace, has a great appeal to our hearts and is one of peace, calm, joy and hope. Advent is a time of conversion. John the Baptist's proclamation, 'prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight!' (Luke: 3:4), is an exhortation to genuine conversion and reformation of life. In our country, the reality of the present situation never seems to match our expectation and our dreams for a just and lasting peace."
The Sudan Advocacy Action Forum echoes the call to prayer:
"In the Northern Hemisphere, we have just experienced the longest night – period of darkness – in the year. On Christmas we celebrate the birth of Christ who brought a new light into the world. Please pray in the name of the Prince of Peace for a just and lasting peace for all the people of Sudan. We wish all Sudanese a blessed Christmas and a happy, healthy, safe and peaceful year to come."
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has been in ministry with the people of Sudan for over 100 years.
