National Health Care Sunday?

Writing for the blog, Homiletical Hot Tub, published by Lectionary Homiletics, the Rev. Dr. John Killinger proposes that Sunday, September 6 be observed as a National Health Care Sunday – a day on which preachers speak to the debate underway about health care reform

Killinger notes that preachers need not "take sides in the debate about what kind of provision to make for the poor." But he also notes that those who preach "are obligated by our calling, as followers of Christ, to demand help for them from our nation's legislators."

Killenger observes that the lectionary Gospel for September 6 is Mark 7:24-30. "What," he asks, "could be more perfect a text for a strong sermon on caring for all of God's little ones?"
