Another Pastor Abducted (and Released) in the Philippines

Pastor Edwin Egar of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) is the latest church leader in the Phlippines to be abducted and released.

On February 11, 2009, six unidentified armed men alighted from a van and a car and abducted Pastor Egar from a home. The information quickly spread among church leaders who organized who raised protests. Pastor Egar was released approximately five hours after his abduction.

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow was in the Philippines when this abduction and release occured. With him were staff people David Hudson, Area Coordinator for Asia and Nancy Eng MacNeill, Associate in the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.
