Preaching the gospel in a secularized society

The Presbyterian Church of Portugal (IEPP), the oldest Protestant church in the country, traces its history to 1838, when a physician and missionary from Scotland opened a small hospital and a school and began to preach the gospel on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Soon, persecution began in this predominantly Catholic country, and most members of the IEPP had to flee.

Baltimore kids find safe space to play year-round

For five weeks during the summer, nearly 50 youth in West Baltimore can be seen working on their reading and math skills, or they might be packing up for a day on a local farm or at an area museum. It’s all part of the Rosemont Community Interfaith Coalition, which is focused on ending the violence in the Maryland city by offering positive experiences and hope for youth.

Summer camps: training grounds for leaders

As the world tilts toward chaos and we stare down global uncertainty, it is not the mighty armies that make me feel safe. Nor does the knowledge coming out of universities bring me peace. Instead, I take solace in the fact that at this very moment, summer camps are taking place.
