Prodigious Old Testament scholar Patrick D. Miller, Jr. dies at 84

The Rev. Dr. Patrick D. Miller Jr., a prodigious scholar at two seminaries affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), died May 1, in Black Mountain, North Carolina after a long illness. He was 84.

Doris Ellyn Anderson Reeves, a Presbyterian missionary who taught at the same elementary school in Cameroon that she had once attended, died Dec. 30 at age 89.

Pioneering missionary and pastor Elizabeth (Libby) McAliley passes at age 90

Libby McAliley served for 23 years as a Presbyterian Church in the U.S. (PCUS) missionary in the Belgian Congo. She completed a Masters of Christian Education in 1959 and received a Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1973. That same year, McAliley became the first woman in South Carolina to be ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.

The Rev. Buddy Monahan dies at age 52

The Rev. Buddy Monahan, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa, Texas, and corresponding member of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board as chair of the Advocacy Committee for Racial Ethnic Concerns (ACREC), died Tuesday afternoon, March 27, in Odessa from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 52.

Presbyterian Mission co-worker Robert Rasmussen dies at age 90

The Rev. Robert I. “Bob” Rasmussen, a mission co-worker in Malawi from January 1986 until his retirement in August 1992, passed away at his home in Michigan on Thursday, Jan. 25, at age 90. After he retired, Rasmussen and his wife Edith returned to Malawi many times, sometimes for months at a time, to train pastors and to preach and teach.
