Greetings from a VISTA!

Connecting Food Fighters, one story at a time…

Food Movements unite Ari

Since I took an interest in the Food Justice movement, I’ve worked hard to start and contribute to conversations unveiling the downsides of industrialized food systems and the importance of taking an active role in the fight to reclaim and re-localize the control we have over the food we eat.  So often, these conversations unearth the problem that people feel helpless, as though any action is interminably ineffectual.  While the true nature of our existing food system does indeed lack transparency, there are many things that we can all do to engage our communities and ourselves in the fight for Food Justice.

During my time here at the Presbyterian Hunger Program, I’d like to share some of the wonderful people and projects that I run across who are actually getting things done both!  Whether they are gardeners or teachers, pastors or kids, through their stories I hope that we can all find renewed strength in the fight and learn a myriad of different ways we, as individuals, can involve ourselves as active “Food Fighters” striving for a just and healthful food system we can be proud of.

If you are actively engaged in a Food Justice project in your community or would like to get involved, please contact me so I can share your story!  Email: Arianna.king@pcusa.org.  Phone: (502) 569-5818.  The more folks involved in the conversation the more communities we can collectively begin taking the necessary steps towards healing.  Goodness Grows!
