from food crisis to food justice!

September As we have learned over the past 12 months, agribusiness and
modern, industrial farming is destroying the ecological integrity of this
beautiful planet, and so many people are being exploited along the food supply
chain!  God’s Creation is groaning under the strain of fossil fueled
agriculture with its pesticide poisoning, chemical fertilizers, unjust labor
practices, and the carbon and methane pollution heating the atmosphere.

FROM FOOD CRISIS TO FOOD JUSTICE!  The September Global Food Crisis fast curriculum is
about communities near and far that are rebuilding food self-reliance,
sustainability, security and democratic control over the food supply. The fast
goes from September 4-6 but the materials can be used anytime.

See videos and read about success stories of this in the
U.S. and in Africa. And learn what food sovereignty is about and why people
from around the world are calling for such a transformation of the food system.

Materials on Food Sovereignty!

And you can download
the PDF

As you read the materials for September and join in the
fast, please take time to contemplate about how you and your congregation might
help address the food crisis. Feel free to review the monthly Responses sections
of the fasts and refer to the “52 ways toward a just and joy filled food
system
”.
Even if it is something small…plan next steps, recruit others to help or
support your initiative. And send us your ideas for yourself, your church
and/or the denomination.

Call PHP coordinator, Ruth Farrell (502) 569-5816 or email her – ruth.farrell@pcusa.org — about ideas
you have or just to discuss how to – individually, in your congregation, and as
a denomination — live out our faith in the face of increasing hunger,
especially as healthy, local food systems are popping up all around us.

And in case you missed it, below is a 3-minute video from last year’s World
Food(less) Day. It comes from Pesticides Action Network Asia-Pacific, and it is
thought provoking and maybe inspiring?
