Youth Find Environmental Justice Program Inspiring

Earth Covenant Ministry Creates Misión Verde

This summer, Earth Covenant Ministry (ECM), based in Atlanta, Georgia, began a program called “Misión Verde: An Exploration of Faith in God’s Creation.” This program was designed for Latino youth to come together for a week and discuss the connections between caring for God’s creation, faith, and environmental justice issues facing communities of color.  Thirteen youth in all participated in the program this summer, and did a wide range of activities, from camping and boating, to gardening in a local church. ECM came together with Decatur Presbyterian Church, College Park Presbyterian Church, Calvin Camp and Conference Center, the Tri-Presbytery New Church Development Commission, and Good Shepherd/Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church to develop this program.

The prayer emphasizes Thanksgiving, Intercession, and Covenant. The prayer stresses the growing problem the youth saw in Georgia, and the need to create a better community. This program brought together youth to show the changes still needed on the earth, and how even youth can create a better world.
