Dallas to honor those who died in homelessness

Annual interfaith service to be held November 4

News from First Presbyterian Church of Dallas

Homeless man sleeps on a city benchDALLAS – A citywide interfaith Service of Light & Remembrance, hosted by Faith Forward Dallas, will be held to remember neighbors in Dallas County, Texas, who died homeless during this past year. The service will take place at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas on Sunday, November 4, starting at 4 p.m.

Each year, indigent citizens of Dallas pass away without anyone to honor their lives. Faith leaders from various traditions will unite to honor them and pray for their eternal rest. The public is invited to attend the service where over 200 names of our homeless brothers and sisters will be read aloud and recognized.

Over the past years, numerous organizations in Dallas, including The Stewpot of First Presbyterian Church, have worked tirelessly to combat homelessness. While much progress has been made, several hundred people die on the streets each year.

First Presbyterian Church hopes that the Service of Light & Remembrance will highlight the need for a united effort to expand effective solutions and build a true and just society for all people.

A heart for the city since 1856, First Presbyterian Church of Dallas is a family of faith committed to loving God with all heart, mind and strength through the ministries of worship, education and service.

First Presbyterian Church of Dallas is located at 1835 Young Street, Dallas. Free parking is available. For more information on this service and other events in the life of the church, visit www.fpcdallas.org.
