LOUISVILLE — Dr. Trina A. Armstrong, Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy and Pastoral Theology Director of Marriage and Family Therapy at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will deliver the 2023 Edwards Virtual Lecture beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on April 13. Register here.

Armstrong’s topic is “Reimagining a Post-Covid 19 Black Church: Lessons, Opportunities and Possibilities.”

“Covid 19 has been a global public health crisis for over three years, causing an array of losses, long periods of isolation, and significant impacts on our daily lives,” the seminary said in a news release. “With most of the world returning to normalcy, the national Covid 19 emergency will soon transform from pandemic to endemic.”

“Many Black churches have resumed regular in-person services and incorporated hybrid services to address safety concerns and expand their reach. What is the significance of this formal ending for Black churches and Black people? What have we learned about ministry in a global pandemic? In what ways have the intersecting endemics of racism and police brutality and the controversy surrounding vaccinations presented new opportunities and possibilities for ministry? Can these opportunities and possibilities be fully realized, or have we returned to what we’ve always known?”

In this interactive lecture, research findings and stories of Black churches that successfully navigated the pandemic will be used to examine these questions as invitations to reimagine a post- pandemic Black church, the news release stated.
