In the three weeks or so since the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) issued an appeal for help, Presbyterians have donated nearly $1 million in response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
With unanimous approval from Olympia Presbytery, Longview Presbyterian Church in Longview, Washington, is donating a 2-acre vacant lot adjacent to the church property to Housing Opportunities of Southwest Washington (HOSWWA). The land will provide space for 48 affordable housing units, about half of which will be reserved for people transitioning from homelessness.
As the writer says in Ecclesiastes, “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
“A consideration of stewardship of resources has led to the decision for Presbyterian Voices for Justice to celebrate its history by donating its financial resources to three social justice causes,” said the Rev. Bear Ride, a board member. “We are delighted to be giving a donation of $9,431.35 to each of these: Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, the Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and to the Rev. Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon Scholarship Fund.”

DREAAM, an acronym for Driven to Reach Excellence and Academic Achievement for Males, is a program designed to reach, teach and invest in African American boys at risk and to walk alongside them and their families beginning at the early age of 3 until they reach the age of 24.
