Meet Allison, an SOLSN Ambassador

It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a new Ambassador. Not because I don’t have a bevy of interesting, dedicated volunteers to choose from…

Allison WehrungToday we’ll meet Allison Wehrung. She’s a former Young Adult Volunteer, now a senior at Columbia Theological Seminary.

So, Allison. What does mission mean to you?

I think mission is the call we have to do ministry outside of our traditional churches. It’s striving to live up to the example of Jesus, who ate with tax collectors, healed with mud, and helped those whom others ignored. One of my favorite things about the PC(USA) is its connectional nature, and through mission we can broaden the scope of those connections, learning more about others and about ourselves, putting the gospel we read into action while we’re at it.

Why do you feel it is important to highlight funds development efforts in this way?

My two YAV years included fundraising, which at first was challenging for me. One of the most helpful things I found was explaining (or understanding for myself) fundraising as a way for more people to connect with a particular ministry, even if they can’t be the “hands and feet” on the ground of that ministry.

I look forward to meeting Allison, with the other volunteers, at our training in New Orleans in January. There’s still time to join us! Application deadline is December 15. Visit pcusa.org/SOLSN
