Ecumenical Advocacy Days roared from 0 to 60 Monday in the short span of a sermon preached by one of the nation’s most gifted preachers, the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
At the Lived Theology in Asian America Conference on race, justice and politics held last week, Dr. Melissa Borja of the University of Michigan shared what she and her research team learned as they tracked stories in the media about anti-Asian racism and resistance to it over the past year.
The Rev. Otis Moss III, pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, and Tanya Watkins, executive director of Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation, which carries the memorable acronym SOUL, may take slightly different approaches to serving their community.
The Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III remembers the heartbroken grandmother of a man in denial of his drug addiction. “Son,” she told him one day, “until you name the demon, you ain’t never gonna be free.”
