In a matter of a few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world from what we once knew to something we hardly recognize. Most Americans are sheltering in place and practicing social distancing. Face masks and gloves have become part of one’s everyday attire. Across social media the #StayHomeStaySafe hashtag is trending more and more each day.

It’s been a few months since Holmes Camp & Retreat Center in Holmes, New York, made history. Now the camp’s executive director, the Rev. Bryan Breault, is hearing lovely things from the parents of campers from across the country. Parents are thanking him — and the facility of the presbyteries of Hudson River, Long Island and New York City — for hosting what is believed to be the first-ever weeklong camp for LGBTQ+ high school youth at a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) conference center.

Eunice Poethig, a champion for women

The next U.S. presidential primary election will feature at least three viable women candidates — a development that would have no doubt thrilled Presbyterian minister and leader, Eunice Poethig. The Presbyterian Historical Society recently completed the processing of Poethig’s papers, and they illuminate her advocacy work in expanding the numbers of women and people from other marginalized communities serving as leaders in ministry and civic life.

More Light Presbyterians plans to ordain full-time staff positions

The Board of Directors for More Light Presbyterians, a group working toward the full participation of LGBTQIA+ people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has voted to make the organization’s full-time staff positions eligible for ordination as validated ministries.
